Walking In The Spirit Verses Living In The Spirit

By David J. Stewart

Galatians 5:25, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Many people are indeed Christian believers, but they do not walk in the Spirit that they have indwelling them. Instead, they are filled with their OWN ways instead of obeying God's ways. Proverbs 14:14, “The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.” Galatians 5:25, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

This Bible verse is a good doctrinal Scripture, showing the difference between living in the Spirit (having the Spirit living in us); verses walking in the Spirit (us living in the Spirit by abiding in the Scriptures). All Christian believers have the Spirit abiding in them, but most believers do not abide in the Spirit. They do not walk in the Spirit, and so they instead fulfil the sinful lusts of the flesh. Believers who walk in the flesh will reap the rewards of the flesh, which is why at the Judgment Seat Of Christ many believers will receive NO REWARDS...

1st Corinthians 3:14-17, “If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”

Notice that following rewards, the Bible immediately mentions the earthly body. Of the few people who are truly born-again and going to Heaven, most will receive no rewards from God, because they lived in sin as a backslidden believer.

It's not what you're doing that gets you to Heaven, it's where you're looking. Look to Jesus...

Isaiah 45:22, “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”

"Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days."
